Don't waste Money on the Plans you do not Use

The HBO series “Boardwalk Empire” has come to an end, and so has our subscription to HBO, Starz and Encore. It was the only series we watched on the movie channels. When we watch TV with no plans to watch a specific show we start from about Channel 4 and work our way up the grid. In most cases we stop at TNT, USA or AMC and never manage to see what is on any of the movie channels. By reducing our subscription we will save approximately $40 per month, making it a whopping $480 per year.

It may not seem like a whole lot to some, but it can mean saving a bit more money each month or spending that $40 per month on something that is actually needed.

Every once in a while everyone should take a close look at their monthly bills. Check to see if you are paying for more than you actually need. It is nice knowing the movie channels are there, but what is the point if you never actually watch any of the movies. Especially when Amazon Prime costs about $99 per year and Netflix starts at about $96 per year. Both subscriptions together come to about $195 per year, still making it cheaper than paying for the movie channels through a cable company.

Do not stop at reducing a cable bill. Check to see if you need the internet speed you are paying for, there may be a slower option if you are not into playing high graphic games or have a house filled with constant internet users. Check your phone bill, to see if you are using or need everything you are paying for. If you never text and prefer not to text, then check to see if there is a plan that does not include texting. If you do not ever use even half of the minutes you are paying for, check to see if there is a smaller, cheaper plan.

When it comes to your water, electric and gas bills you have the ability to conserve each month by turning off the lights when they are not needed, conserving water whenever possible, putting the air conditioner up a bit or bringing down the heat and so on. With many other bills there is no monthly way to conserve. It is a set plan that does not fluctuate unless you go over your minutes or order a movie on demand. Other than that it does not tend to go down when you do not watch certain channels or send a single text message all month. It is up to you as a consumer to evaluate your bills and determine if you are paying for more than you need or want. Every penny you manage to save adds up.
